It looks as though Sierra College Blvd had yet to be built in Loomis. The road crosses above the tunnel.
 
To be frankly I don't have too much information regarding these pictures myself. It is from my fathers collection, and all the pictures listed in my gallery here at Railroadforums, is taken between 1965 and 1970. The photographer use to study in Roseville these years, but that's all I know.
 
Great shot. And what a great job this guy has. I'm sure train crews were sad to see the end of the use of the caboose. To be able to just hang out on the back like that as the train heads down the tracks would be a dream come true for me.
 
He definitely wouldn't want to be standing there when/if the slack ran in or out.
He would probably be violating several rules if that scene could be duplicated today.
