When I was planning my trip to Prince Albert, I made it a priority to see this old steam engine. Oddly I couldnt find any photos on the web, so here it is!
CN 5080 (2-6-2), ex-Canadian Government Railways 453, a 1914 MLW product. From what I read on wikipedia, CGR was a CN predecessor.
Note the broken window in the cab door. His paint sure is fainted, after rusting in the sun for 41 years. The plaque reads:
Steam Locomotive
Engine #5080
Was donated by the
Canadian National Railway
to the
City of Prince Albert
To commemorate Prince Albert's Centennial Anniversary
in 1966, and in recognition of Prince Albert being one
of the oldest communities in the province of Saskwatchewan
and the northern terminus of the first branch line in
Saskatchewan of the Trans-Canada Railway
CN & CP have long since left the city, leaving CTRW with their old IC GP10 wrecks. Right across from the engine is a cattle car and caboose, all sitting separately. Why not put them together, thus forming a train? At least they're not fenced off like him, nice ladder to the cab...
