Classic E-8 in Canada

1971 the new CPR action red color scheme is the new official colors for CP exception this classic E-8 repainted in CP gray & maroon.
Units #1800-1802 were built by EMD in 1949. The three E8A units had two 567 V12 2-cycle engines generating 1125 Hp. each. Unit #1801 was wrecked at Lachevriotiere, QC. on Dec. 28, 1968 and retired as a result of the collision.

The two remaining units were sold to VIA Rail in 1978 and used on the "Canadian" between Montreal and Calgary. They didn't go further west because they lacked dynamic brakes. They were renumbered to VIA #1800 and #1802, and later renumbered to VIA #1898 and #1899, not to interfere with CP's RS-18u's #1800-1868.
