Built as BN 7102 11-1978-Burlington Northern Railroad SD40-2 7102 and C&IM SD38-2 74 at Clyde, Illinois on September 8 1982, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from BN Annual 1977-80, edited by Hol Wagner: Beginning in September 1978, Chicago & Illinois Midland units began operating on the BN out of Galesburg, Illinois in exchange for the BN units which were running through from Peoria to Havanna, IL over P&PU/C&IM trackage with Commonwealth Edison coal trains. The coal trains had been running this way since 1970, but the C&IM had been paying for the use of BN power. At first, C&IM SD9's and SD18's were the common 'payment power', but shortly the Midland's six SD38's became the standard units.
