In this view, train #16 with the 712 and 708 are nearing the top of the 2.2% southward ascent from Pemberton to Mons. This particular train had two remote slave units plus a four-unit SD40-2 set of manned helpers cut in at different points in the train.

The sound of these MLW's climbing the grade near Wedge was almost deafening, and in fact it was louder than the few rumblings of thunder that was echoing off of the mountains when this picture was taken. The two-tone green blends in with the coniferous forest very well, which I feel best represents British Columbia and this forest resource-based carrier.

July, 1988.
