The hard work is over for this SD45 on the rear of westbound tonnage passing the signal bridge at MP 138 in Washington, MA. on March 7, 1981. The train cleared the top of the grade about 1/3 mile back and the head end has just passed the summit, about a mile ahead.
Beneath the signal bridge a small, thin mast is visible to the right of the tracks. This holds an indicator light for the dragging equipment detector at that location. The "dragger" is no longer there, defect detectors on the old B&A are all radio "talkies", now. The signal bridge, itself, disappeared in 1988 when ConRail single-tracked, and changed from ABS to cab signals, the B&A. Also note both the old and new types of flanger signs near the base of the signal bridge.
