While bouncing home from Port Kembla one morning, rounding the curve approaching Thirroul, that mongrel yellow signal indication glared at me. Having hit the air to slow the empty coalie, the next stick a short distance away, that signal at the northern end of the platform indicated the scattered aces, we were once again going into Thirroul, probably to let a stinking interurban overtake us. Swerving under the overpass and into the UP refuge, I spied that orange and black. In the flurry of muttering the usual curses at being shoved in the hole, working the brakes and throttle, I just managed to fumble in the bag and grab the camera. The cab blinds were down on the bulldogs indicating that the crew had abandoned ship. On my trek down to Port Kembla on tuesday night, I was most amused to discover the southbound bulldogs in trouble again. The ARG crew dividing the train at Hurstville to drag portions of it down to Waterfall as one of the bulldogs had once again clagged the bag. The Orange and Black motive power reliability factor of late being rather poor.
Fortunately, on that southbound trek we had been swung across to pass around them. But, the night before another coalie had been sent to the rescue of the failed Orange and Black.
