A sad sight

A sad sight

I'm very fond of this photo. It really conveys the decline in traffic on the E&N Railway over the past few decades. The roundhouse and surrounding facilities in Victoria were at one time the base of operations for the entire system, in 1955 it was moved to the Wellcox yards in Nanaimo, BC. In 1986 tracks were removed from all but 4 stalls and stall no. 9 was permanately sealed off. In 1993 all motive power was moved to Nanaimo and by 2001 freight traffic was discontinued. The roundhouse continues to deteriorate and many fear that in a matter of a few years it will be gone.
