A Jersey Classic

CNJ GP40PH-2 rests at Phillipsburg, NJ between commuter runs to Jersey City. Note the vintage obs car behind the loco.

Central New Jersey? That's a sharp paintscheme!

I think the scheme was similar to the C&O/B&O dark enchantment blue paint job used starting around 1966 and up until the Chessie System scheme was introduced in 1972. I thought maybe I heard somewhere that there was a possibility that CNJ would wind up under the C&O/B&O umbrella and not wind up in Conrail. Not exactly sure what happened there.

CNJ had close ties with both the Reading and B&O (both CNJ and RDG helped the B&O access the lucrative New York and North Jersey markets). There was talk about the Reading joining with Chessie, tho I believe it was shot down by the union...not sure if CNJ would have been part of the deal.

Built 10-1968; currently MJTR 4108
