Poking out of one of the Rock Creek tunnels. This is always kind of a tough shot because it is always back-lit regardless of the time of day or year. In the winter it is pretty much perpetually dark.

Interesting angle. It looks as though the tracks are blocked by a slide.

Yeah I wish there was a clearer shot, but there really isn't from across the river. There is quite a pile of spilled rock next to the track, and the highway is a lower elevation than the roadbed. Also it's a 600mm equivalent so there is quite a compression effect as well. I agree it looks like it is off-roading

Funny, your comment got me to look at some older files. This shot is from 4 years ago from the same location. Notice the netting over the hillside and the nice clean roadbed. Apparently there was a slide there. You can also see the same bush is larger these days.

SD70AH is not an official EMD model designation, just a UP designation to keep the "Heavies" separate for power dispatching purposes. They are ACe units that are ballasted to 428,000 lbs instead of the standard "ACe's" 420,000 lbs.
