heading down grade

As pictured here, the scenery on CP's Boundary sub was spectacular, especially in the fall. What a shame to have lost this stretch of rail line. I have to say that this trip was among the most memorable train rides that I have ever and no doubt will ever take.

Here we are heading down the hill about 15 miles west of Castlegar, BC with 5 loads from Grand Forks and a caboose headed for Nelson. Lower Arrow Lake is far below in the valley. When we reach Castlegar, we will be at lake level.

The upper and lower Arrow lakes were created in 1968 when the Hugh Keenlyside dam was built on the flood plagued Columbia River just west of Castlegar.
