Salmo is the site of a turn of the century Great Northern depot which still stands today however the rails are long gone.

The last movements over this part of Daniel Chase Corbin's former Nelson & Fort Shepard Railroad were executed by International Rail Reload Systems with a leased CF7 2632 pictured here looking north towards Nelson, BC in early 1998. IRRS purchased this line north of Columbia Gardens, BC from Burlington Northern in 1998. The only customer left this far north on the line by this time was a small lumber reload facility located here at Salmo. The track north of Parks to Salmo was in very bad shape and traffic levels did not warrant reconditioning of the line, also the lumber reload was a competitor to the line's new owners so by early 1998 trains no longer visited Salmo. As I understand now, the sawmill at Parks is no longer operating so the only customer left is the veneer plant in Fruitvale, BC, a far cry from when GN/BN trains used to run all the way into Nelson, BC.

The track was salvaged in 1998 and 1999.
