The EMD Battle

A set of three SD40-2's battles the 1.8% grade westward with 54 cars at Mance, just a short distance shy of Sandpatch Tunnel. This is literally a horseshoe curve and you could hear the Q359 for over 10 minutes working her way up the big hill before getting to our spot. The GPS showed the elevation here at 2,111 feet with the summit at 2,258 feet. A microphone would have been nice to catch the EMD symphony in motion!
