Why did 0-6-6-0 locomotives have no pilot wheels?

Not needed to gethrough switches? (The tender wheels would act as guides when backing.)
Did they ever derail other than from track problems?
Thank you.

Low speed, and more weight on drivers.

If it had pilot wheels, it would no longer be an 0-6-6-0. :)

Never knew of an articulated locomotive without pilot wheels.
Wondered how much weight was taken fromy great uncle's 4-6-2 and 4-8-4 locomotive's drivers by the pilot wheels.

Leading and trailing trucks support a lot of weight, not just act as guide wheels.

An example, after a quick search, from https://www.steamlocomotive.com/
