While doing some research on an old line, I came across a building/property labeled "Engine Boop" on an 1851 map where the line terminates. I have no idea what this may be referring to and an internet search was not enlightening. Anyone have any insight on this term? Thank you!

I suspect the map draftsman, who was not knowledgeable about railroads, misread a diagram that said "SHOP." Just a little distortion or smudge on the "SH" could make it look like "BO."

That's definitely possible! I would think a draftsman would be more inclined to choose a familiar word they use often like "shop" if the text was distorted rather than a term they didn't know, but maybe what they were copying from was horribly illegible. Thanks!
