I like the old ALCo switcher.
Me too! I ran that from 1995-2003
On my way home from work yesterday, spotted this parked just east of Abilene Ks, waiting for the local to get done switching in the BNSF yard

If I remember right the alco switcher was A South Omaha Terminal loco. Used to switch the stockyards and industries in south Omaha. Connected UP, cb&q, and the MP among others. Is the big curve east or west of town? Love your pictures. Kansas is my other home state.

Many thanks!!
Yes it was. When they removed the old orange paint they got it down to where you could see the old lettering. That curve is just east of the east yard lead switch
Santa Fe 554 is what I call a War(p) Bonnet. Love the photo of the big curve.
Thanks! I'm surprised 554 hasn't been stuffed into storage, seems to be a good runner yet

55 years ago I rode behind Burlington 5632. It was steam then. Nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!
Yesterday's activity was a "2 fer 1":
1: BNSF 6044 rolls west, with EGSX coal empties in tow.
2: After the BNSF train came to a stop, I turned around to see UP 7324 leading the eastbound MSITP thru town.
3: Once the UP train cleared, the BNSF train got back under way, DPU's were BNSF 5625 & 6195
