Here are the 4-8-4s and their type names. I'll start, Northern - Santa Fe, Burlington Route, Milwaukee Road, CN, CP, C&NW, Rock Island, D&H, Rio Grande, Grand Trunk Western, Great Northern, Soo Line, MP, NP, P&R, Frisco, Cotton Belt, SP&S, T&NO of Canada, TP&W, Union Pacific, Wabash, WP plus Golden State (SP), Pocono (Lackawanna), Wyoming (LV), Potomac (Western Maryland), Niagara (NYC and NdeM), Greenbrier (C&O), and Dixie(NC&STL)

1) Chesapeake and Ohio named their 4-8-4 Greenbrier in honor of the famous hotel resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia since the railroad lies in the South and didn't want to call it a Northern. 2) Yes, The Denver and Rio Grande Western is/was called Rio Grande for short, just like Saint Louis and San Francisco was called Frisco, and Saint Louis and Southwestern was called Cotton Belt, among others. 3) the NC in NC&STL stands for Nashville, Chattanooga, NdeM stands for National of Mexico, in case you were wondering.
