Happy 2nd month of the New Year!!! Going to start a fresh thread for the Omaha Posse. Feel free to add anytime. Trip to Fremont and Valley today to test some sound recording equipment. BNSF was switching the south end. UP 819 was dropping cars at the BNSF transfer on the west end and had to wait for the southbound BNSF 4286 oilcan train. A UP 2701 headed east through Valley. A stop at Valley DQ and one train at Waterloo with this R&N hopper bringing up the rear. The GP 30 5001 is one of 2 produced by GMD, used to be CP 8201 according to my source.
A bit of cabin fever was relieved by a trip to Ashland on Friday the 5th. around Lunch time a KCS train was headed west and then Tom's Fremont engines brought some cars to the Ashland yard.
For some reason I have to go out at least once when it's cold. -14 degrees this morning. -1 at noon so I went out to warm the car up. Drove out to Valley NE and a GP 38 819 was sitting by the crossing. I saw this one in Fremont last week. Drove to Fremont, it was devoid of trains except for a standing train just east of town. Long train with DPU's in middle.
Out for lunch today. The No Omaha yard at Seward St had some geeps and some a coal train loco and a place where tracks used to go. A train passed the Amtrak station downtown with WP hopper while we had a socially distanced lunch in our cars. It was 28 degrees, time to open the windows after -20 last week. Old baggage cart is probably CB&Q.
30 degrees on the way to 44 today. Another 4 or 5 inches of wet snow yesterday. A visit to Fremont ,NE finds the BNSF local kicking cars on the west end and a standing train in Valley, NE. Orange looks good in the snow.
The first out the ordinary loco of the season in the company of the UP 6441 at 60th St in Omaha and the bridge abutments to the former Chicago Great Western yard in Omaha. I think they tore the bridge out at least 30 years ago maybe 40.
Happy Spring! Snow is gone except from places the sun doesn't hit along hills and on the south side of gullies. Just west of Kennard NE is an EB UP train and a WB UP train. And some of the interesting logos on the sides of the vehicle transport cars.
Fremont 3/11/2021. Sunny 55 degrees. A BNSF tank train w CP DPU, the old FEVR dinner train stranded on the west end of Fremont on ex CNW tracks with SW 1200 1219, ex CNW 1219(CNW 319) built 1962 and a UP WB with a NS loco. UP had some troubles today. Just after the 5495 passed me it went into emergency, not sure what happened. Another EB west of Fremont got stopped for a hot wheel by the detector, possible brake shoe rubbing on the wheel, is what they said to dispatcher. When dispatch gave him the ok to go, he said you will "hit a wall" at Pacific St. Rough day and I had to go bathroom so I went home. Not sure what the FEVR 361 is(was) yet. Forgot the Belt Railway of Chicago GP7 at the north end of Fremont in the industrial area.

UP 1135 is sitting on the original transcontinental main of the UP just west of Millard NE at a railroad place named Lane. This is the place where the 1906 cutoff toward Omaha met the original line. This is the first time I've seen anything on this track in 20 years or so although there is a local the comes by here. The 3 units are stopped on track 2 of the cutoff about 3 hours later than when I saw the 1135. Seems like there is more traffic on the line to Omaha than usual.
Had to run an errand in Gretna, Nebraska and heard on the scanner that a BNSF train was waiting for two at Melia. Found out it was Job 101 (EastBound) waiting for for 2 westbound empty hopper trains.
1. BNSF 5612 west at Melia, NE
2 BNSF 6411 west at Schram Road Gretna, Ne
3 BNSF 5009 East at Schram Road Gretna, NE
Here is a late Amtrak 6 in daylight at Melia, NE May 6, 2021 and the BNSF 176 on the LINLIN also at Melia. Melia is a passing track west of Gretna. I have not found any history for the name Melia.
Thought I better get out this morning before it got to 96 degrees. 88 at 10am. Train 8456 west of Kennard NE at MP 354.1 and a stopped tank train east of Fremont NE. Switching in Fremont is the BNSF 2746 and the 2967 and a shuttlewagon at the Fremont power plant.
From yesterday, this UP freight is waiting at the Iowa Interstate diamonds at CRIP Jct for a freight to clear. That train happened to be powered by the KCS. I happened to get near the station just as the KCS was heading east.
