Time Stands Still

Black and white photography has always appealed to me. Even when I was shooting slide film full time I kept a second body filled with black & white close by. Black & white images can serve two distinct purposes. First, a black & white image allows you to see details that are usually kept hidden when viewing the same scene in color. Second, black & white images can also provide the viewer with a context about the photo. As a photographer I can use this second purpose to my advantage. Wearing a fresh coat of paint and with an engineer dressed in pinstripes this image could have easily been taken in 1938 when the CI&L 50 was delivered to the MONON as the first diesel engine on the roster.
