End of the V.E. rail

In January 1996 A.& K. Railroad Materials removed the last 6.1 miles of welded rail from the abandoned (1990) Visalia Electric Railroad. One worker looks on as another uses a cutting torch on the rail at dusk.

Fantastic photo, Don. I have been looking to take a shot like this for a long time, but can never catch up with the MOW folks when they are doing this work. Not only is this a great photo of the action, but is also well composed and balanced.

Interesting - this rail ended up on the Willamette & Pacific north of Independence, Oregon. Sure made for a nice, smooth ride!
