VIA Rail 6148 sits in Courtenay, BC ready to head south to Victoria.

That is the original Courtenay station, built in 1916, it was not intended to serve as the northern terminus, CPR was pushing to connect with Campbell River about 28 miles north of Courtenay, but construction stopped short(rails end just short of an old grade crossing about a quarter of a mile behind the RDC's. The station itself is an interesting one, it's the only station on the E&N Railway to have separate men and women waiting rooms.

Ah, home sweet home, I grew up at the nearby Air Force base (Comox)and graduated High School just down the road at Courtenay High School, in the late 60's. I remember when CP would run the daily passenger train powered by the Baldwins, 8000 series, with 3-4 coaches. Thanks for the memories. oh by the way, Campbell River is 28 miles north.
