Sharing the Road

Driving around in the city you have to share the road with trucks, bicyclists, pedestrians...how about trains? UP's Santa Ana Branch runs right through the heart of the city with 1.5 miles of track winding through city streets passing through residential neighborhoods and even a small portion of the downtown district. Two local freights make daily appearances on the line, switching industries in Anaheim, Orange, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa. Here, the Marlboro Local makes its way down Olive St. in the midst of afternoon traffic, moving along at a blistering 5 mph.
