Not sure how a pink SD40-2F sumbolizes remote controlled units, but I must admit this is one cool sign! Sure beats the one they have in Winnipeg. Basically chalk on wood. Here's the other side of the crossing that the sign is on: http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=40829&si=remote&perpage=18 If you look just above the Geeps ditchlights you can see the back of it. Beltpack controlled Geeps do yard work and go through that crossing all the time.

Chappel yards? Are those the ones across the river? Main CN yards in Saskatoon? As I want to visit them. Been looking over them from satellite actually, doesn't appear to be many good approach roads leading there. Why would they build a train station on the very edge of the city?

Yep, the main CN yards in Saskatoon. The only good road that goes remotly near the yard is "Bumma road" or somethig of the like. It goes right up by the station, frieght depot, container terminal, and power shops.
