It was June 17, 1996, and BNSF's very first, experimental orange and green repaint, SD60M #9297, was heading for Richmond, CA on the point of the Q-ALRI. It was supposed to arrive in the afternoon, so I knocked off early, went trackside, and waited. And waited. BNSF 9297 west arrived under cover of darkness, spent all the next day buried in the Richmond diesel facility, and when night fell, it snuck out once again. As a result, this is the only picture I have of the experimental 9297, sitting in the diesel facility sandwiched, between the intermodal area and the classification yard.
