Are those the biggest Chinese steam engines? Really like those side-pannels on the front. Some German and Russian locos had them as well.

They are China's largest modern day steam engines....the side panels are smoke deflectors or also called smoke lifters.

Just noticed those stars on the side. I've heard from Russian engineers that in Soviet times they were used to represent your rank as a productive memebr of the society (or soemthing like that) and that in post-Soviet times you got a star for every person you ran over... Wonder if its the same on the Chinese system.
