Scrap Metal

UP Dunmuir line just outside Roseville CA., 1/8/04
So what happened? OK, obviously a derailment/wreck of some sort, but what was the cause? One train or two? etc...

It was an 86 car southbound train form Portland, Oregon. It had just passed the road crossing at which the train crew later reported that they felt a huge bump when the cars began leaving the track. The cause is still under investigation. I will post the official cause as soon as I learn it. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The official cause of the accident was a broken axle on a BNSF boxcar.
