The trailing unit has a more interesting history: it was built as CB&Q GP35 979 12-63.

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad GP35 979 westbound at Naperville, Illinois on May 20, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in December 1963 (c/n 28301) on EMD Order 7668 for four GP35's, of a total of 22 GP35's purchased by the CB&Q (#'s 978-999) between December 1963 and December 1964. This locomotive became BN 2525, and in December 1989 was rebuilt to GP39E 2932.
