The new forum software is much more integrated with the photo gallery. That means that when you search, you can search for everything, only forum posts, or only photos, whichever you prefer.
As an example, try a search for "Cliffs", a member who frequently posts photos in the gallery. The results will show you both his posts in the forum as well as images he's posted in the gallery (now called "Media).
If you visit the search page, you'll find the options for specifying which areas you want included in your search.
