It's not exactly street running, it is more like sidewalk running. The tracks are where the sidewalk would be if there was one. The train stopped at every intersection so a crewman could flag the intersection.
Amtrak train 66 comes off the Canton Viaduct on Sunday, June 8, 2008. The train left Providence, Rhode Island at 7:04 a.m. and will be pulling into Boston's South station at 7:52.
Boston and Maine GP-9s bring an eastbound freight into the East Deerfield, Massachusetts yard sometime in the early 1980s. I don't remember exactly when I took the photo but it was while I was in college.
