Where is the Omaha Posse?

Railroadforums.com is a free online Railroad Discussion Forum and Railroad Photo Gallery for railroaders, railfans, model railroaders and anyone else who is interested in railroads. We cover a wide variety of topics, including freight trains, passenger and commuter railroads, rail news and information, tourist railroads, railway museums and railroad history.

Don't know about PTC and Warrants yet. Still investigating. Here are some from today with a late #6, with a BNSF loco on the front, at Greenwood NE and some freight trains. A nice park to stand under the shade of pine tree and watch the trains go by. Should have brought a chair.

My internet connection did not like putting these 3 files on the last post, so here they are on this post. Plus 3 more.

Into Iowa this morning for a chase of the Bayard Local. Top speed the train reached was 20MPH, But with a long stint of road construction it was a bit difficult to keep up. BNSF 3171 and a green 2967. And in case you forgot what Iowa looks like in the summer, green corn, white rock and cloudy skies. Quite nice.

Caught a few trains at Oreapolis today. Missed shooting an eb grain train and a wb intermodal. Managed to catch these eb loads with mid-train and rear DPUs (first four shots). Then saw these empties from Kansas City Power & Light heading wb with storm clouds in the background.

I just love the 85mm prime lens. Some UP trains on an absolutely gorgeous day. Light clouds, light breeze, 72 degrees, low humidity. August? Not sure. 5955 leaning into the curve at Logan Iowa, the 5991 along the Lincoln Highway(Hwy US 30), the rest are 2 miles west of Kennard, NE at MP354 on the old CNW.

Compare this scene of the 2937 with virtually the same scene in post 461 of this thread. Plants will takeover when we are not around.

One of these things is not like the other. Almost to the top of Marshall Hill, the westbound UP 2671 and helpers hoist a manifest on UP's Blair sub. I was looking at another shot taken just before the first one and I cropped it to show the roads at this point. That's Hwy 30 off in the distance and a gravel road that takes a sharp right turn. This close to where the Papillion Creek watershed ends. Everything west of the top of the hill drains into the Elkhorn River. I'm just glad I didn't have to survey this for a railroad.

Good shots. I like panoramas which show the surrounding countryside through which the trains pass.

My parents are from Iowa and remember the Lincoln Highway.

Near 78th and Cass St in Omaha is one of the last indicators of a railroad in this area. I think this a surviving pole from the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley RR. last known as the CNW, Omaha to Arlington,NE. It is now along the Keystone Trail which follows pretty close to the old railroad.

Yep. Many trees down, power out in some areas. No rain just wind. I am just amazed at how fast it came through and how fast it covered Iowa and Illinois and still had power to level corn fields and tear stuff up for hours and hours.

I went up the BNSF Sioux City line this morning to check out a photo spot that looked good.
Much crossing work and bridge work and no trains. Poor choice of days.
Stopped at Hooper, Ne to see if Florida and Alabama 2-6-2 #18 was still hiding in the shadows.
Met CGW101c in Fremont for lunch and UP trains.
Here is a Westbound UP near Mercer,( East of Fremont.) and 500 in Fremont.

Here are a few more from east side of Fremont. 2 waiting trains and mounds of soybeans. And some light power waiting to go east.

I came up from the south hoping for a train at one of the old wooden bridges. "Missed it by that much" as Maxwell Smart used to say. Pile driving at Leshara so no trains the rest of the day. 2342 was back in Fremont by the time I got there. All I saw was the orange blur fade into the horizon. Did see the 4188 of the UP at Yutan. And a couple of standing UP trains. And the CBR 901 tucked in behind the grain elevator at Fremont. Looks like it's Ex TNO 245, SP 3357.
