Vomit Bonnet BNSF 9647

Hard over on loconotes that the Vomit Bonnett 9647 was OOS waiting on an overhaul. Also heard that it might lose the vomit bonnet paint. Can anyone confirm this?

Its been in Emporia, KS since 12/19 I havent heard anything else from that

I read that on Loconotes too, would be a shame to see it get painted into the
"sorry swoosh" scheme

Its looked awful for years. I ran that thing in the lead on a loaded coal train Thanksgiving day 2006. It looked bad then, I can only imagine 6 years later. I dont think they should paint it back in the paint scheme it is. Maybe they will paint some more of their MACs, (8814 looks really bad) they are decent engines. It seems like BNSF likes to paint all their yard goats but when it comes to the road power, unless its new, it looks like hell for the most part.

I agree, I have seen many BNSF units running with areas in primer,mismatched hood doors, etc.

I saw some later model BNSF MACs today in the Chicago area, did not have a camera with me as I was working, but they definitely back up my thought of the awful looking paint on these locomotives. Orange faded to pink, one had primer where some repairs had been done, silver trucks and fuel tanks looked brown and they all were peeling. I know some years back it seemed that BNSF had pride and their locos always were clean and looked nice, pulled well. Now they sure are looking ratty. I think they would rather paint engines that are going to get turned back into their lessor or yard goats that really dont advertise. Most of the stuff in blue and yellow and cascade green looked great 20-30 years later. I have worked in the RR business for 12 years now and I can tell you, the road power is one of your best advertisements... although I dont work for BNSF. Nor do I work for KCS anymore for that matter. Maybe if I worked in the mechanical department I would understand..
