Quick grab shot. Actually looks good this way.
Good, as rough as some of those flags are looking, I'm glad the quit putting them on the loco's. I said from the first time I seen one the railroad will not treat the flag with the respect it demands. I was right.
So any new units/repaints will come without the flags?

Yep. There's a couple ACe's without the flag also.
I kinda like it with no flag, (i think?)i'd like to see a few more pictures of them.
New EVO units currently rolling out of the shop have flags.

Any pics?
I liked the flag at first but looking at flagged units and the classic "UNION PACIFIC" units in the same consist I like the old Union Pacific lattered units.
And I see 7912 has the red reflector frame stripe, instead of the yellow
UP, for some reason is keeping the flag scheme, personally I see it as an overplayed song on the radio, well same concept. It's just so annoying it's disrespectful. Annoying in the aspect that the flags have been getting burnt, or they're fading. I love the look of the ACes without flags, and the GEVOs look pretty darn good to.
I wonder why the 7912 got repainted, fire damage, or wrecked?
I certainly understand why UP started applying the flag to units after 911. We all were feeling our patriotism and flying the flags on cars, trucks, and riding mowers. However, when those UP units started getting dirty I felt it was becoming a poor way to support the troops. I feel the same way about folks who let the flags flying on their cars get tattered and faded. There are prescribed ways to display and handle the flag that are just as important as flying it. I'm glad to see that the UP might be returning to the classic paint scheme.
Interesting. I think it looks pretty cool, thanks for posting the pic.
Anybody know why it was repainted like this?

i second that!!!!!
To me, UP should've just had an SD70M painted, UP 2001 with a flag, and had the actually UP 2001 that there is numbered 2003.
UP 2001 is a blue Olympic unit. I'd hate to see it go back to yellow but......
I don't think either of the Olympic units are in danger of going yellow. 2002 went in for an overhaul last year and came out with a freshly painted underframe and a white frame stripe. I must say it looks better then the original stripe color too.
Sorry. Can't post pics from inside the fences. They look the same as what you're used to looking at.

No, I mean back when they were doing Olympic units, 2001 shoul've been numbered 2003 while the number 2001 should've belonged to a unit in the flag scheme, the ONLY unit lol
