Union Pacific Railroad welcomed the Spokane community to the Amtrak Depot today to celebrate the railroad's 150TH anniversary as the UP 150 Express continues its excursion through the Pacific Northwest region. Accompanied by the all-new Promontory baggage car, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art traveling museum, the sparkling E-9 locomotives rolled into Spokane to the delight of children, families, rail enthusiasts and elected officials who were on hand to join the festivities and mark the historic occasion.

It is all three E units, 951 is leading followed by 963B and 949.
There are eight cars in the consist:
UPP208, UPP314, UPP1605, UPP1610, UPP5779, UPP9005, UPP5011, UPP106
Out of Spokane, the 951 will be leading, with 949 trailing. They are leaving about 6:30 am for Multinoma Falls and Eugene. VIPs for passengers. The public is only admitted to the history car. Exhibits are well worth seeing.
Notice the nice detail and EMD builders plate on the side of 949 in picture 2. Mechanically these units are GP38-2, but with A-1-A trucks. They sound just like a GP38.
They backed the train east about 3 miles to UP's East Spokane yard where it will overnight. Rent-A-Cops all over the place ran everybody out, but I managed to get a couple of telephoto pix FROM THE EDGE OF HAVANA STREET.
Here is a close up picture of 949's builders plate. It is not a stamped metal plate like original, but a stick-on decal, to discourage theft. Still looks mighty good.
Great! I've been wanting to see 951 in person for years, as it pulled the test train for the American freedom Train in 1974, called the Preamble Express.
Anyone have shots of the inside? Do they have a UP store in it like the Amtrak 40th train did?
