After a long winter of virtually no private rail cars and few heritage units, on April 20 and 21 we got lucky! This event brought out several railfanners from the area.
The drama unfolds with Adrian reporting two trespassers to NMRX and the dispatcher quickly alerts Amtrak 3 and the Bernalillo police.
AMTK 822, the phase III Heritage unit leads the Southwest Chief with Colonial Crafts on the end. Tip of the hat to the crew!
We had hoped for a meet because Amtrak 4 was running hours late due to a problem with the lounge car in Los Angeles. It didn't happen but we caught it at the Sandia Pueblo station with Graham. On the rear were the lovely Patrick Henry Promotion cars, Evelyn A Henry and Warren R Henry.
The next day, Amtrak 3 comes through Bernalillo with one of my favorite cars, the Cyrus K. Holliday.

The Warren R Henry. Was that built as a Business car, or modified later? I think the closest Walthers HO model would be the recent releases of the City of Portland/City of Los Angeles observation name cars. The rear end of the roof is good. Wonder if it still has the card room up front on the other side.

Get your PV shots while you can! With the new Amtrak policy, it's likely there will be less private cars hauled in the future.

Yes, going by that announcement, it is probable it will also apply to not just full trains like the AAPRCO specials. I can see them being relegated to short or class 2 at the best. Will make it very difficult to move cross country. Getting tacked onto a freight and sitting in a yard somewhere while classification manouvers are carried out would be very unattractive. Maybe have to buy their own loco as well.

The Cyrus K. Holliday passed through Edmonds today (5-17-18) on the rear of the Chicago bound Empire Builder (Amtrak #8).
