Greetings group!!!
My family owns a home in Breckenridge, CO and the house is on Boreas Pass Rd. The road used to be part of the old Boreas Pass Railroad that went from Denver, CO all the way to Leadville, CO.
The house is built on a very steep slope and I have recently been doing some amateur "metal detecting" around the house and have found several old railroad spikes, but just found this piece today.
I was looking to see if anyone had any info about what this was used for exactly. There is a museum here in Breckenridge that still has an intact section of the railroad and an engine. I went and looked this section over and could not find a piece that looked similar to this. My luck, the museum is not open this time of year (no idea why).
The only marking is a large font that has "No. 4". It's easily visible in the pictures. It measures approx 5" x 7" and still has a 6" spike attached.
Any info would be appreciated.
