I start school next month for CSX track worker. Once I complete the school and get back home I would like to attened a local trade school to learn how to weld. My question to you guys when working for the railroad and going to school for a trade the could be used on your job, do the railroad supports you attending? Do they take you off of being on call? Do they allow you to leave and a good enough time to get to your class on time?
Or is it like if you want to be a welder do csx just send you to there school for you to pick up that trade?

Before I bid on a welder job I attended on my own time at the local community college a basic welding night class to learn...well, the basics of welding.

BNSF reimbursed me for the class. I don't know if they still have the reimbursement program.

What is your malfunction?
It all depends on the company, the BNSF has it's own school in KS and the company provides the training, as for the CSX and UP, I wouldn't know anything.

UP supports part time classes for their employees, especially if they relate to the job. Also if you are going for a degree in business or related field they will pay tuition.
