TacomaRail in Olympia

Thats the first I've seen that shove platform there. Last time I was in town was June so its a recent addition. Crews must be tired of riding the cars on the shove back down to the wye. I imagine this is in response to their fiasco when they derailed at Belmore doing their who-knows-what run-around move when a empty pellet hopper got loose and ran through the derail and across the road.

I like what you have done here! I have always been interested in the Olympia area. I have often thought of modeling the Henderson Bay log dump, since I model the Chehalis Western(in N scale). I have often thought I could do a upper level with the Vail reload and the lower lever could be the Weyco dump and downtown Olympia on the lower level.

Just a thought though.

Thanks. I wish I've had more time lately to be in there, but probably around February (like every year) I'll get the time and the bug to get in there and do some more modeling.

I've never been familiar with Olympia, and I don't think in my 44 years in south King County that I've ever gotten off the freeway and driven around Olympia before this year. Odd, I know. However, I like the modeling potential, particularly for a shortline.

Do you have any pics of your layout? What timeframe/location are you modeling, or is it freelanced? I'm envisioning a couple of GP38-2's, a long string of log flats, and a wide vision caboose. Would be a fun road to model.

Sorry Dave, no photos of layout yet as it is still in design phase. I model the CW era post 1982 after the GP 7s were lettered from Weyco into CW. So far I have the entire late diesel roster painted and modeled with the exception of the 684. I have all 3 cabooses done and have a total of about 65 log cars. It looks quite impressive snaking its way around the UNW club layout.

My dad has a model of the 492. That is his pride and joy of his roster.

I have pics of some of the locos. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in seeing them.

Sounds like you're off to a great start Ryan! You have quite the roster there, including a ton of log cars. To do it justice, though, you really need to have a bunch of them.

I googled some CW images to get an idea of the what the GP7's looked like in your era. It was all good until I scrolled down a bit and got the surprise of a naked guy riding his bike on the "Chehalis Western Trail". lol Well, the internet is certainly full of surprises!

Thinking of heading down to Olympia next Tuesday or Wednesday and am wondering if anyone has any current knowledge of the TacomaRail ops in Olympia? In the past Tue/Thu seemed to be the days to visit - just wondering if this is still true.

TR has been running pretty late lately. About two weeks ago I heard them blowing the horn out by Belmore at 9pm. Another day about a month ago I saw them rolling towards Oly past the brewery about an hour after sunset
