I have seen two CN trains with all very small hopper cars. They are about half the length of a grain hopper and not as high and they have straight/flat sides. The train I saw today I am guessing was two miles long. And it had distributed power on the tail end. I didn't see the forward half of the train so I don't know if he had any mid-train power or not. This was in the Champaign subdivision, in case that makes a difference. Anybody know what these cars are for?

they could very well be ore cars, possibly going to the BLE or to the DMIR. or they're Ortner stone cars(if open topped). If covered likely sand, salt or cement hoppers.
