How important is it to know the manufacturer of a steam whistle if one wants to sell it?
A friend has some large steam whistles which don't seem to have identifying marks.
Someone said they could be Penberthy, but I haven't found pictures matching the acorn on top exactly.
The large one is 43#, 24" tall and diam of 8-1/2".
The smaller one is a little less than 20" tall with a 6" diameter. DSCF8214.JPGDSCF8216.JPG

I went ahead and posted them for sale on Ebay and have had a response that said:
Hi, this whistle has an unusual octogon, eight sided inlet instead of the common hexagon, six sided. According to my old illustrated whistle catalogs, this is probably an "Eaton, Cole and Burnham".
Still unsure of the value for selling purposes.

Is the listing a sale or an auction?
If an auction, and the right two people find it, it may turn out well for you.

It is an auction with a minimum starting bid--I really couldn't find good comparisons so had to guess on the starting price.
