Seeing a lot more oil trains out here, on both roads, which have a lot of people concerned.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

Hope everyone had a nice holiday. They will be getting very busy here at the UPS yard at North Bay, as holiday shoppers mean extra Z trains

On my last trip up to the wildlife refuges, I caught the CFNR RR doing their thing (The Corning Flyer) near Maxwell California. It moves a quite a leisurely pace right along I-5 so it's very easy to get ahead of.

A wildfire recently came right up to the tracks at the entrance to the Sacramento NWR, so a lot of it is closed right now. This fella was keeping folks out.

Lots of new camera gear out there just in time for the holidays! Get your list together…

I've got that on pre-order already
I love my current version, but the zoom function has now broken for the second time and I need to sent it off to CPS to get it fixed so I can sell it. The new version promises to be even better and be quite usable with a 1.4TC on F8 capable cameras.

The big thing for me is weatherproofing. The bellows action of the old 100-400L sucks moisture and dust into the lens. That and the old lens, introduced in 1998, uses technology which is over fifteen years old.

Here are a couple of shots using the new zoom along with the 7d2. It was not the best of conditions as it was getting dark and sprinkling (in other words, like western Washington 9 months out of the year :p), so these were shot at IS0 3200 wide open at f5.6 and 1/500, which is slower than I prefer for big zoom shots of moving trains.
