Good photos. I am glad you included an osprey shot, or you would have been hearing from me.

It's hard not to post too many! I have to keep in mind this is a train forum! That said, we are swimming in Osprey this year. They counted 45 chicks hatched this year up from 17 in 2012. Birding goes well with where I watch trains. This red tail buzzed me just as the following eastbound rounded the bend in Franklin Canyon.

Whew, still on the first page this week! :p

I was picking my buddy up at the Oakland airport the other week and had a couple of hours to kill, so I hung out at the Emeryville Amtrak depot for a while.

First thing I caught was the weekly light power servicing run heading back to the Ozal yard in Martinez. This used to be a lot more interesting before all the old Geeps got repainted.

Then the eastbound Capital Corridor (generally eastbound trains are in push mode so this is heading away from me) made an appearance

Than the San Joaquin rolled into the station, to the delight of the youngster taking videos on the platform (this is a popular hangout for teenaged videographers, and the station seems to tolerate them)

Lastly before I left a string of six road units running light came through. I think they may have been going out to pick up a train somewhere, possibly from the Richmond Pacific just down the line a ways. The empty ore trains usually depart on weekends back to Utah.

So it was time to go, and sadly I saw no freight action, just a lot of light power and Amtrak, but it was better than nothing, and beat sitting in the airport parking lot.

Construction of your home layout is progressing quite nicely. I see you have the Emeryville station scene nearly completed.

We finally had a few days of some interesting clouds here in the bay area a while back. A nice change from always cloudless.

The next day I went down to the side of San Pablo Bay, where I thought the sky might make a nice dramatic background along with the water. Most of these are shot wide, for effect.

By now, it was time to go to a Labor Day BBQ. Pretty good day shooting by the bay though. I like the colors fall brings, not to mention the upcoming bird migration, which means more stuff to shoot (I mean photograph of course)!

As always some amazing photos, those clouds could not have been better. What lens/focal length were you using when you shot AMTRAK 4 and 2051?

Thanks guys!

The wide angles were shot on my 7D with a Tamron 10-24 ultra wide zoom. For the exact focal length you can check the Exif data on Flickr.

Thanks for the information. I need a wider lens than my Nikon DX 18-105 zoom.

Yeah for a crop, the 10-22 or 10-24 range is the way to go, which is a 16-35mm full frame equivalent on a Canon, slightly different on Nikon, but pretty close.
