Thanks Trainfanne54 and Bill.

I don't go to that location in Pinole very often Bill because it is not, how would I say, in the best neighborhood. All shots are taken from in my car, parked at an overpass, as I wouldn't walk around that street with a big white lens hanging off my neck. It also works best when there is some dramatic cloud background, so when I do go, it tends to be more in the winter time, like now!

These next two are what I call the perfect model railroad prototype if you want to justify short trains and cabooses!

During Thanksgiving week, I took the out of town guests on a train ride up to Sacramento to the Railroad museum. They have completely re-done the old SP depot station area and also changed one of my favorite exhibits. The WP F unit is gone, replaced by this. This SW-1 was one of the first diesels owned by the WP.

There is a plan to make the old SP shops a working museum. I would like to believe it, but I am not holding my breath.

Last for this week. I have to go to the FedEX store tonight and pick up my 5D2 and 100-400, which have been in the shop at Canon's repair center in Irvine. One week turnaround, so I am impressed. I can't wait to get my favorite train lens back in action!

Love the short RPRC move! Honestly your whole thread with all of it's incredible photography has inspired all of my current 1/87 modeling. Thanks!

How does the Richmond Pacific keep its loco and caboose so clean? Is there a giant drive-thru car wash on the premises? ;)

Thanks Paul, glad you like it. I enjoy the pursuit when I have the time. Someday I want my own HO empire, but I don't have the time or space at the moment (and the thought of what my two kitties would do to a layout is frightening!), but the RPRC would definitely be a fun subject to model.

Bill, I don't know how they keep their fleet looking so good. They park them all outside right next to a mountain of Ore that gets loaded onto the cargo ships at the port. They must have the time to hand wash them every now and then. They are also expanding with a small new yard in Richmond, so maybe more facilities are in the future. It will be interesting to see. I will see if I can get a picture of where they park them at night.

Real nice captures. Crisp, clear air makes a heck of a difference. The countryside is greening up nicely. Its looking like the promised land again.

Looks like AMTK will be forfeiting some of their Carbon Credits . . . .

Yes, winter is definitely here. Besides the nice cool crisp air, we have had mostly rain for the last few weeks, which is good, because we need it, but it does pose some challenges for photography.

Today, on Christmas eve, eve, I finally got all my shopping done and headed to the tracks just down at the end of the road here in my little town of Pinole. It has been pouring hard since last night, but I still had hopes of getting something. No freight to be seen, but Amtrak provided a couple of shots. So here is my last post of the year, and I wish everyone a happy holiday, whichever one you celebrate, and hope to a good new year of exciting rail-fanning! :D

Slightly surprising to see an Amtrak B32-8 running the Capital Corridor this afternoon

No snow in the bay area, but we are having a gray Christmas! The red and green signals add somewhat to a holiday theme.

You can't see it in this picture, but Pinole creek is running just about a foot under the bridge, where it is usually about 6 feet lower.

Another unusual sight was this F59 running light at speed toward Oakland. It must have gotten orphaned somewhere along the line recently.

Last one, from a few days ago on a much clearer day, the Capital Corridor heads into the final bits of daylight only a few days before the official start of winter.
