Even though there are over 500 shortlines in the US, there aren't a whole lot of options for news and articles dedicated solely to shortlines. The only one in print is The Short Line magazine, published by Pioneer Railcorp, a shortline holding company based in Peoria, IL. Here is a link to the magazine website:

There are some other magazines out there which feature shortline news sections, such as Railroads Illustrated and Railpace (which is localized to the northeastern US in coverage).
