July 10 2021

My pandemic visit to Lake Balaton took place on the first retro weekend in 2021. I had left Vienna already on Friday and checked into Halászkert hotel directly adjacent to Badacsony station.
Images from the trip there have been shown here already:

Regional Rail Express - 43: Citadella II (50 p.)

I walked to the western end of Badacsonytomaj early morning. My most desired object this trip – NOHAB-GM M61 019 - thundered past 25 minutes delayed with the first train at 5:16 a.m., VESz 19749 Tapolca - Balatonfüred.
heck5614.jpg

Lake panorama with view of Fonyód on the southern shore.
heck5615.jpg

Sunrays had made it above the clouds for VESz 19799 Tapolca - Balatonfüred at 5:40 a.m.
heck5616.jpg

IC 1979 "Levendula" Tapolca - Budapest-Déli at 6:10 a.m. formed the only "proper" InterCity of the line with a total travelling time of 2:59h, all other express trains were stopping more frequently along one or another section of the railroad. Remotorized 418 308 (M41 2308) had also been freshly repainted.
heck5617.jpg

On the way back to the center of Badacsony, I encountered this GDR-built IFA truck crane:

All cleaned up nicely after the Friday night party on Lake Balaton beach.
heck5619.jpg

A windy morning.
heck5620.jpg

heck5621.jpg

View towards Badacsony table mountain of volcanic origin. "Bada" maybe is derived from the Slavic words "Voda" (= "water" of Lake Balaton) and for pier, the place probably carried the name earlier than the mountain.
heck5622.jpg

heck5623.jpg

heck5624.jpg

Previously classified as semi-fast trains, "Kék Hullám" ("Blue Wave") had been upgraded to InterCities, IC 19707 Tapolca - Budapest at Badacsony.
heck5625.jpg

heck5626.jpg

M62 127 with a push-pull rake in heritage livery formed several local train pairs on Saturday, here VESz 19747 Tapolca - Balatonfüred. A car and a few passengers have been removed digitally.
heck5627.jpg

heck5628.jpg

IC 19797 "Kék Hullám" Szombathely - Budapest hauled by nostalgic red M41 2103.
heck5629.jpg

heck5630.jpg

I walked on to Badacsonytomaj for the return of M61 019 pulling VESz 19742 Balatonfüred - Tapolca.
heck5631.jpg

Typical concrete walls around MÁV-property which are omnipresent throughout the country.

VESz 19734 Balatonfüred - Tapolca provided one of the best departures of the day, on video:

July 9 2021

Friday evening, I walked uphill into the vineyards - view including IC 19706 "Kék Hullám" Budapest - Tapolca. Almost no boats could be found on the lake due to strong winds, warning lights kept blinking at the harbors.
heck5641.jpg

VESz 19746 Balatonfüred - Tapolca passed by punctually, in the background half an hour delayed IC 853 "Tópart" Nagykanizsa - Budapest-Déli on the Lake Balaton southern shore line near Fonyód.

VESz 19781 Tapolca - Balatonfüred approached at 7:50 p.m. from Badacsonytördemic-Szigliget station.

Near Badacsonylábdihegy halt. Rókarántó hill with chapel in the distance, we will visit it next time.
