Hi, I am doing some genealogy research and one of my ancestors work for the street car lines in St. Louis at the turn of the last century. He is variously listed as having the following occupations. I am wondering what exactly each position meant and if he was moving up the ranks, so to speak, or pretty much staying in the same kind of job?

The following is basically verbatim what the records say:
1900 - He is listed as a trackman for the street railroad.
1910 - He is listed as an oiler for the rail road.
1918 - He is listed as wrecking crew for United Railway.

Thanks for your time!
Dan
