Listening to local railroad streams, it seems that the BNSF Z-trains between chicago and south seattle (ssechc, chcsse) have been resymboled as Q-SSECHC and Q-CHCSSE. ive never heard this happen before. i can only imagine this is a temporary measure due to the flooding and the fact that these trains are being severely delayed due to reroutes.

That is correct. They are all running via MRL and Mandan, ND so BNSF downgraded their schedule description from "highest priority service intermodal train" (a Z train) to "guaranteed service intermodal train" (Q train.)
