Members of the Port Huron Yacht Club are set to vote Sunday on plans to remove the Pere Marquette Railroad Bridge.

The measure allow the board to spend up to $300,000 for the removal of the bridge, Commodore Pam Wall said.

The bridge has been abandoned for years, and the proposal is to keep it in place as a landmark.

UPDATE. As expected, they voted to demolish the bridge. I can understand their point of view. It's a yacht club, not a railroad museum. That thing is a huge and expensive liability. If somebody wants to save it, make them an offer they can't refuse. But they bought the property (not sure of the details) and they can do whatever they want with it now.

Members of the Port Huron Yacht Club voted to demolish the Pere Marquette Railroad bridge Sunday, citing the heavy costs of repairs to the bridge.

Commodore Pam Wall said the vote was a majority decision. The board was concerned that the upkeep for the bridge would be far more expensive than the cost of removal, and the bridge is in need of repairs.
