Hi,

Trip over the long weekend to Budapest and Szeged - the sunniest city in Southern Hungary.Thursday evening, the Venice Simplon Orient-Express from Paris and Vienna arrived in the old Eiffel-constructed station shed of Budapest-Nyugati terminal (western station). May 1-3, steam engine 424.247 hauled an excursion tour via Békéscsaba and Szeged from and to Nyugati. I tried to navigate the insane masses of onlookers at stations as well as possible... ;0)The Békéscsaba - Szeged line still features full diesel power with original Pielstick sound and semaphore signals at most stations. Almost all trains were hauled by non-remotorized class M41 / 418 diesel locos, except for one "Pusztametró" Metrovagonmash unit.Szeged owns the second-largest tramway network in Hungary. In 2021, tram-trains to nearby town Hódmezővásárhely were launched partly using the Békéscsaba - Szeged railway line, operated by Stadler Citylink diesel-electric hybrid units.
