Steam Chaser
Yesterday, my dad needed someone to take him to the airport. Knowing that the NKP 765 was coming into town to Berkeley, right next to the airport, I easily accepted. A few hours before the flight we headed to Berkeley Yard, where the 765 had just arrived, to see if it was visible. When we pulled up, the crew was filling the tenders with water (not a quick task!). As we watched the activities, 3 F-18 fighter jets came in for a landing at the airstrip and did some crazy slow-down maneuvers! Soon after, local D53 with a high hood GP38-2 pulled up on the near track. It got the light and soon headed on its way. Soon after, 765 pulled forward. The Wabash and IT heritage units, 1070 and 1072, then pulled forward to set out the coal gondolas. By then the clouds were moving in, signaling the approaching storm, so we had to go. But no worries, as the 765 will be powering some excursions around town this weekend!
