For the first time in over 30 years, ride a steam-powered passenger train through the Allegheny mountain range, enjoying the sights, sounds, and experiences of timeless American industry.

Three 160-mile round-trips excursions of the Horseshoe Curve Special will traverse one of the busiest routes in the country over the former Pennsylvania Railroad’s “Middle Division,” and through Altoona, the railroad capital of the Standard Railroad of the World.

Behind no. 765 will ride a fleet of restored coach, deluxe coach, dome car, and first class passenger cars with special lounge and observation offerings available, including the first class Pullman car, Dover Harbor. FWRHS members are eligible for a 10% discount and will receive instructions via mail.

Prices start at $129 and $149 for coach, $179 for deluxe coach, $279.00 for first class lounge car accommodations, and $379 for dome car seating and in the Dover Harbor.

Passengers and fans can get an exclusive 10% discount on all Amtrak travel to Lewiston, Altoona, and Harrisburg between May 22nd-May 30th, allowing travel by train to the Horseshoe Curve Special in the days before and after the trips. This discount applies to Amtrak travel only.

Too expensive for my blood when I can just ride Amtrak over the Curve, but I have already gotten my hotel room for an extended stay to photograph it. As a bonus, the circus train should head west through the Altoona area that Tuesday as well.
